Planned Parenthood: The Ice Cream Truck

The following piece was written in response to an article in The Rattler, the St. Mary's University newspaper. To see the full, readable article click here. I know the source citation numbers are out of whack. I'm working on it.

Abortion is the bottom line for Planned Parenthood. This seems to be the common misconception and unknown fact for so many who are advocates of Planned Parenthood, including the author of the recent article in The Rattler entitled “Family planning will take hit because of cuts.” (Vol. 98, Issue 8 March 2, 2011, page 7)

First, I would like to note the almost laughable irony of the picture drawn by Eric Vijil displayed for the article. The caption reads, “Like Taking Money From a Baby” and depicts a man in a suit taking money from a baby in a baby carriage. The play on the cliché is understandable but how can the government possibly be taking money from an aborted child that does not even make it to the crib?

In this article the author wrote about all the “health services” that are provided by Planned Parenthood. It is quite interesting when one truly researches Planned Parenthood and their “caring” services. I tend to think of Planned Parenthood more as an ice cream truck owned by drug lords. The common ice cream truck sells cheap product to young, vulnerable children getting them to become loyal customers with eyes glazed over by the thought of a sugar filled treat. The truck is a front for the money making, illegal back door business that brings in the greatest revenue. The difference? Abortion is legal.

“STD testing”? Fudgesicle. “Breast cancer screenings”? Push Pop. “Testicular cancer screenings”? Dream Bar. Just like the ice cream, all the non-surgical services at Planned Parenthood are good in themselves yet they are the beginning to the end means, namely abortion.

In the February 2004 issue of Consumer Reports, a product testing agency, said that Planned Parenthood’s condoms were “the weakest we tested: Fewer than half of the samples made it to 25 liters before exploding, which might mean a greater risk of breaking during use. And too many had holes.”5 Consumer reports said, “We rated one model that Planned Parenthood distributes at its clinics as poor because its strength was so low compared with the rest.” Yet, Planned Parenthood officials say their independent testing has yielded “excellent results.”6,7 Not only are their male contraceptives faulty but there are also reports of giving out low dosage contraception in the hopes of creating a pregnancy so that the woman can be “counseled” into having an abortion. 19

It is also interesting to note the history of Planned Parenthood. It was founded by Margaret Sanger who built the organization on her idea of eugenics. Eugenics is defined as “the study of or belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population, especially by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics).”8 She said on blacks, immigrants, and indigents that they are “…human weeds,’ ‘reckless breeders,’ ‘spawning…human beings who never should have been born.”9 On birth control and the handicapped and mentally ill she said the purpose in promoting birth control was “to create a race of thoroughbreds.”10 “More children from the fit, less from the unfit – that is the chief aim of birth control.”11 On the extermination of blacks she said “we do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population…if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”12 But what is Planned Parenthood saying today? The exact same with different words and more action.

A YouTube search of “planned parenthood racism” provides footage of Planned Parenthood affiliates that are “excited” to accept donations “specifically for a black baby.”13 It only takes a second to search “planned parenthood pimp” on YouTube to see footage from an actual Planned Parenthood facility advocating underage sex trafficking and giving advice to a pimp on how to conduct business. Not common? Keep scrolling down the search results. Planned Parenthood also covers up statutory rape laws. Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics, Inc. enlisted the help of a young girl to call over 800 Planned Parenthood clinics in the U.S. The girl posed as a 13 year old involved in illegal sexual activity with her 22 year old adult male who had gotten her pregnant. Crutcher reported that “In case after case, Planned Parenthood counselors willingly ignored state law to cover up these molestations and violations of statutory rape laws!”14
The author of this article in The Rattler also wrote that Planned Parenthood provides “education on body image, relationships and sex.” I shudder to think that my children might have access to visit the Planned Parenthood website www.teenwire.com to take online quizzes such as “Test Your Sex Savvy”, “Penis Pop Quiz”, the “Clitoris Quiz”, or “You Want to Put WHAT, WHERE?”1 or play interactive games such as “Hooray for Birth Control!” or “Jim Dandy and His Very Gay Day.”2 Planned Parenthood continues their education using the rawest of terms for these preteens, all of which are not suitable for the audience of this article. On this website Planned Parenthood also helps your 12 year old pick the right condoms based on the latest trends again to vulgar for this article.3 There are many other articles and programs that are not even allowed to be quoted in a college newspaper.4

Again, abortions are the money maker for Planned Parenthood. All they do, every service and program they provide is in the hopes of fostering an abortion. In an interview with Lila Rose and Tony Perkins of Live Action and AFC action Abby Johnson, the former director of Planned Parenthood in Bryan, Texas and 2008 Planned Parenthood Employee of the Year recalled that during her time in the organization she was told “Every Planned Parenthood affiliate must be an abortion providing affiliate by 2013.”18 This goes strictly against their mission about abortion being “safe, legal, and rare.” Abby was shown a map of Planned Parenthood affiliates in her region. Abortion providing facilities were shown as pink dots while non-abortion providers were blue. She was told that the goal was to turn all blue dots into pink dots within the next four years. In her recently released book Unplanned Abby speaks of the immense pressure she received to increase the “bottom line” with revenue from abortions.15 If the goal of Planned Parenthood is to “prevent [the number of] unwanted pregnancies” why were the client goals under abortion continually increasing? (quotes stated in The Rattler article) Abby said in her recollection after a budget meeting that she recalled, “I came away from that meeting with the clear and distinct understanding that I was to get my priorities straight, that abortion was where my priorities needed to be because that was where the revenue was. This meant that my job as the clinic director was to find a way to increase the number of abortions at my clinic.” (p115) Some advocates of Planned Parenthood boast that “they are not in it for the money, they are a nonprofit!” Abby was told different: “Abby…nonprofit is a tax status, not a business status.” (p114)

Sure “in 2008 to 2009, abortion only made up 3 percent of Planned Parenthood’s total services” as The Rattler article states. The illegal activities out of the ice cream truck only account for 3 percent of activity. But at what percentage does murder become something to be made aware? What if only 3 percent of the activity at our grandparents’ nursing homes where the murder of the elderly shot execution style? Is that justifiable by the dances and bingo nights that make up the other 97 percent of activity?

Last year Planned Parenthood received over $363.2 million to provide abortions.17 They are the largest abortion provider in America. In 2008, Planned Parenthood performed 324,008 abortions, and a recently released fact sheet shows that number increased to a staggering 332,278 in 2009. (See chart below.) This money out of your pocket allows one baby to be aborted every 96 seconds by Planned Parenthood. $11 every second of taxpayer dollars go to this deception giant.16 According to Planned Parenthood’s 2009 Annual Report, abortion accounted for 98% of its services to pregnant women and the numbers continue to rise as the seek for cash flow rises. Not only are there current non-abortion facilities that can help “low-income” clients but what if that $363 million went to those facilities that promoted life and truth?

Where is your money going this April 15th? It is going to the Dippin’ Dots and Butterfinger bars in the horribly deceptive ice cream truck so that more money can be set aside for the money making business in the back.
